Our Child Advocacy Program helps parents fight for the rights of their children in school settings. This includes attempting to resolve conflicts before mediation or court hearings takes place. To begin the process, we make sure parents understand what Special Education is, what Special Education Services are available based upon each child's needs, how a child should be taught in an environment that is not restrictive, what the requirements are for a child to be considered eligible for Special Education, how a child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) should be created so a child can achieve academic success, parental rights to file a hearing, mediation, and Alternative Education options if a hearing is not successful. Special Education is when parents and school personnel work together to create an education plan that is suitable for academic success based upon a child's need. The Federal Law that covers Special Education is called the IDEA Law or (The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Each state has its own laws governing Special Education. Services that are associated with Special Education are Related Services, Transition Services, Supplementary Assistance, Alternative Testing Options, Assistive Technology, and Transitional Services. Each service will be discussed further when a parent contacts us. We will also discuss IEP's, hearing options, mediation, and Alternative Education Options.
